Day 4 – Brainstorming, flywheel removal and hammering

Removed the flywheel from the engine today. Brainstormed some ideas of how to mount a motor onto it once we get one. Going to put the transmission back in, and see if the starter motor can move the car by itself, as it is connected to the transmission, it is very easy to put back together. Not sure if we would be able to gain anything by atleast starting the car moving, as compared to using our big motor and having a huge current draw. Mainly it’ll be fun to try. Also got the radiator out.

To take off the heavily dented front quarter panel, we had to remove the bumper. While it was off, Ian also removed the airbox thats tucked in behind the bumper. After removing some more 10mm bolts, the dented panel was removed and Jamie hammered it back into rough shape using a rubber mallet and a log. Doesn’t look too bad…

Next bodywork tasks will include fixing up all the rust spots – Grind off with wirebrush grinder, sand down, bondo, sand, primer. The car will look very spotted soon, but since we’ll paint it when its done, thats okay.
