Day 8 – The Degreaser

Decided to clean out the engine compartment and the transmission of 15 years of oil and grease. Not quite finished, but alot better then before!

Once everything is clean we’ll give it all a nice sanding and paint the inside of the engine compartment. After all, once its electric, there’s not going to be any grease accumulating inside! Might as well make it pretty! Also going to use engine enamel on the transmission to make it look good too.

I also started work on fixing the plastic clasps that clip the door bumper onto the car body. Since I grinded away the rust there, I also grinded away the smaller holes for the plastic V-snaps. Attempting to make little plates to rivet on over the bigger hole so the bumper can still snap back in. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a good 1/8th HSS drill bit to use, so I’ll have to finish it later.

Oh yeah! Great news! We emailed several forklift companies in Ontario, and theres one in Brantford that says that they would be more then happy to donate a motor to us – we just have to take it out of the forklift in the forklift graveyard! Hopefully we can get some other parts too, like contactors and heavy duty wire! Going Wednesday afternoon hopefully!
