Day 16 – Back to the lathe, and a few calls to Honda!

Finished up the flywheel spline adapter today – After some shear calculations we determined how much we could shorten the piece (focusing on saving space in the engine compartment). I shaved off about 0.3125″ from the end and also made a bearing clearance hole 0.08″ deep. Here are some pictures:

All done!

While I finished up the spline adapter, Ian made some calls to Honda. We need a transmission face diagram in order to machine an adapter plate (that fits perfectly). Our plan is to use the plastic printer to make a spacer ring around the transmission, then we will CNC a large piece of 1/2″ thick aluminum for the motor mount that bolts to the transmission.

He talked to several different people and we might be able to get a schematic diagram faxed to us – we’ll let you know what happens!
